Gym, Powered by You!

A new gym in San Diego County called the Greenasium has taken itself almost completely off the grid. They have invested in a special exercise bike called the visCycle, this bike is produced by Resources Fitness and generates enough electricity cool down the room. The more people on the bikes the less power is needed, with three plus people the visCycle produces enough electricity to power the music, lights and computer.
With San Diego being a very green oriented community, co-owner Byron Spratt noticed that typical machines burned more electricity than they did calories. The idea for Greenasium came from the observation that people were burning double energy, electricity and calories by the time they leave the gym. Greenasium also offsetting its carbon footprint by using flooring made of recycled tires and they only turn the lights on at night.
